Preliminary remarks

This list is summarizing 140 important and unimportant technical improvements from start to end of production.

It is sorted by the time they occurred, with both date and serial number in the first column. The date is usually more accurate, because the serial number does not mean the actual production order. However, the date is relatively vague and is usually accurate only to the month. The serial number is only used as a reference, because sometimes the date is not stated and the serial number is used to back-calculate the date. In general, although the date and serial number are provided, there are still some exceptions in production. Both the date and serial number can only be used as a reference for the period.

The second column describes the group in which the improvement occurred and the applicable model. Since Mercedes documents combed from different perspectives define the group of parts differently, for example some parts are considered group 83 in WIS and group 50 in EPC, the more detailed WIS prevails. The third column is a description of the improvement. Then there are illustrations, sometimes there are illustrations before and after the change available, sometimes they are in the same illustration, and sometimes the difference is not visible. Still, these are for reference only.

MY1991-MY1992

Prior to MY1996, Model Year was only available in select markets. Many markets, with the exception of North America and Japan, did not have a model year designation. MY1991 was a fairly rare model year that was available in a few select markets and was actually produced at the same time as MY1992. Therefore, MY1991 and MY1992 were merged.

The refrigerant pressure sensor (B12) familiar from model series 210 and the refrigerant temperature sensor (B12/1)are installed on the fluid reservoir. An observation glass for the refrigerant level check is no longer present. The refrigerant level is checked by the refrigerant pressure sensor (B12) and the refrigerant temperature sensor (B12/1) via the AAC pushbutton control module.

The 7-stage A/C compressor 7SB16C fitted is a completely new development:
Function and operation corresponds to the predecessor 6CA17 Shorter and lighter in construction
Suction and pressure lines are individually flange-mounted
1-pin electrical connection
Pistons are moved directly by the swashplate (no conrods).

The sun sensor (B32) in combination with the newly installed AAC pushbutton control module provides for more precise control of the temperature. The sun sensor (B32) transfers the values measured for the sun intensity to the AAC push buttoncontrol module which regulates the blower speed and/or the cooling capacity.
